Ralph “Monty” Sides Jr. – Hendricker Funeral Home
Ralph Monroe “Monty” Sides, Jr., age 79, of Jacksonville, Illinois passed away at 2:03 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born December 22, 1944 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Ralph Monroe Sides, Sr. and Mildred Cole Sides. He married Joyce Elaine Surratt in November of 1964 in Springfield, Illinois and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2018.
Mr. Sides worked as a salesman for the Fuller Brush Company for several years. He graduated from Brown County High School and earlier in life was a member of the Versailles Christian Church. Ralph enjoyed playing cards, board games, ping pong and hunting for mushrooms. He was also proud of his run for State Representative in 2020 under the Pro-Guns Pro-Life Party. He did this because it gave him a forum to convey a very important message. Ralph firmly believed in peace and he constantly said if Americans were forced to look at the damage war caused and they were forced to look at the mutilated and dead children as a result of war very few people would be willing to fight in all these for profit, perpetual wars that our country is involved in.
Survivors include 3 daughters Sheryl Hackethal of Edwardsville, Illinois, Diana Middendorf of Jacksonville, Illinois and Angel Sides-Cahnman of Springfield, Illinois. 7 grandchildren Levi and Trevor Middendorf, Sondra Brown, Justice Cahnman, Brandon and Bryan Stewart and Tommy Hackethal. 4 great grandchildren Aeriona, Alfonso, Hunter and Emma also survive.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2024 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Matt Haberman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Versailles West Side Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
