Rev. Jerald "Jerry" F. Jenkins

Pastor Jerald “Jerry” F. Jenkins, 89, of Liberty, passed on to Heaven to be with his Heavenly Father and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Barry Healthcare and Senior Living Center in Barry, IL.

Jerry was born March 20, 1935, in Warsaw, IL to Jimmy Jenkins and Rita (McVeigh) Wahrer. He married Juliane R. Lepper on September 5, 1992 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rochester, IL. She survives, and continues to embody the love and grace that they nurtured together. He will also be fondly remembered by his niece, Amy Sutlive (Birdwell Howard) of Keokuk, IA, and his great-nieces, Katie Buresh (Ryan), Becca Morgan (Brent), and Sarah King (Zach), who will carry forward his legacy of kindness.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Trump; and one cousin, The Most Reverend Leon Wilkins.

Jerry’s early years were marked by a dedication to education and service. After attending Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, MN, from 1950-1951, he answered the call of duty by joining the United States Air Force. His patriotism shone brightly as he furthered his skills at the United Air Force-Jet Mechanics School in Amarillo, TX, graduating in 1954 and serving also as a First Responder. Jerry’s military service took him across the Atlantic to the Bentwater Air Force Base in England, where he served from 1954-1956.

Upon his honorable discharge, Jerry embarked on a career as a car dealer at Jerry Jenkins Sports Cars Unlimited. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his passion for ministry. In 1986 he dedicated his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in 1987 founded and served as Executive Director of New Wine Ministries later named Addicts Victorious, Inc. In 1987 He worked at WGCA 88.5 FM as the director of underwriting. His dedication to his faith, family and community continued even after his resigned from WGCA to fully devote himself full-time to Addict Victorious Inc were he volunteered until the year 2000 as a Pastoral Counselor. Jerry’s commitment to helping those struggling with anxiety, worry, fear and addiction culminated in the founding of Addiction Free in Christ in 2016 where he served as President and Executive Director until the time the Lord called him to his Heavenly Home. He served 37 years in ministry.

Jerry’s interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. He found great joy in helping others discover their faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He served as Quincy Senior & Family Resource Center Chaplain for the residents. He cherished reading his Bible and Southern Gospel and Contemporary Christian music. His one of his favorite Scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” was a guiding principle that he lived by and shared with all who knew him.

Jerry’s legacy is one of faith, generosity, and friendship. His unwavering commitment to his community and his ability to inspire those around him with his kindness and compassion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

There will be a private Family Graveside Service for Family Members. Friends and Family are invited to a memorial service on Sunday, August 4th, at 3:00pm at Open Arms Ministries; 220 N 6th St, Quincy, IL. Pastor Ken Geisendorfer of Open Arms Ministries Church will officiate.
