Tipton-Rodney

Rodney D. Tipton, 67, of Quincy, passed away at 4:55 pm Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Rodney was born June 30, 1957, in Rock Island, IL to Donald and Hazel (Sole) Tipton. He was married to Brenda “Sue” Turner on June 17, 1989, at Faith Assembly of God in Quincy, IL.

Other survivors include his three children, Lacey Tipton (Michael) of Palmyra, MO, Kacey Tipton-Dillinger (Corey) of Quincy, and Kobey Tipton of Quincy; one step-son, Brian Myers (Jenny); three grandchildren, Karter and Kamryn Patre, and Jasper “Casper” Pratt; three brothers, Jim Tipton (Vickie), Donnie Tipton (Sandy), and Chris Tipton (Lisa); four sisters, Mary Ewing (Bob), Bette Mabeus (Wayne), JoAnne Dirkschneider (Tom), and Teresa Klingele; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobby and Mike Tipton; one sister, Bonnie Steinkamp; one son in-law, Steven Dillinger; one grandson, Laine Tipton; and one niece, Bridget Bush.

Rodney was a man of great skill and dedication. For 30 years, he worked alongside his brother as a siding applicator, self-employed in their venture that specialized in siding, windows, insulation, and general contracting. Often subcontracted by All Home Improvement, Rodney’s work ethic and craftsmanship were well-respected within the community.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Rodney was a man of diverse interests. His love for his dogs, Joe, Tuffy, and Buddy, was evident in the care and affection he showered upon them. Rodney found solace in the classic Westerns like Bonanza and Mash, and he also enjoyed the culinary delights featured on Rachel Ray’s cooking shows. A talented baker himself, Rodney’s brownies and cakes were the highlight of many family gatherings.

An avid bowler, Rodney often spent joyful evenings at Turner Hall in Quincy, where he shared his passion for the sport with friends and family. His enthusiasm for Nascar races was only eclipsed by his fervent support for the St. Louis Cardinals, a team he followed with unwavering loyalty. However, Rodney’s greatest pleasure came from the time spent with loved ones, whether it was playing cards with family or catching up with friends and his favorite bartender, Fay, at Leroy’s Hideout. Rodney’s spirit will forever be cherished and remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Friends and Family are invited to Rodney’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. Attendees are encouraged to wear any St. Louis Cardinals or sports attire.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses or to the Quincy Humane Society.
