Sandra “Sandy” Kay Fairchild — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Fairchild-Sandra

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Fairchild, 70, of Quincy, passed away at 5:06 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Sandy was a proud graduate of Quincy High School with the Class of 1972 and earned her x-ray Tech certification from St Mary’s Hospital. Sandy spent many valued years as an x-ray technician and mammographer. As was common practice for the times, her children remember fondly the days of getting their Halloween candy x-rayed by their mom as she did for many families in the community.

Sandy was known as being both loving and loyal. A mother of four, (grandmother to 8), she never missed an opportunity to proudly share the latest accomplishments or pictures of her family. Passionate about crafting, she was known to hand make little treasures for her loved ones on special occasions or on request. Even as her children grew older, Sandy made sure the holidays were a time to gather as a family. She was known for going all out with handmade noodles at thanksgiving, transforming her yard to decorate for Halloween, and a stocking full of candy (with an orange in the toe) at Christmas time.

Sandy loved God and was known to stream multiple services each Sunday. She believed in the power of prayer and read the bible regularly. She loved to hear her children and grandchildren singing in worship. It was common to see a cross around her neck or on the walls of her household.

She will be remembered for her devotion, strength, and stubbornness which endeared her to all. Sandy is survived by her children, Gretchan Kion of Jefferson City, MO, Rusty Fairchild (Tara) of Clarksville, TN, Mary Fairchild (Kevin Ward) of Seattle, WA, and Emily Garrett of Jefferson City, MO. Her eight grandchildren, William, Ashley, Kaylynn, Jackson, Paisley, Maverick, Elijah, and Abigail will miss their grandmother’s hugs and sense of humor. She will be forever missed and remembered by her sister (and best friend), Patti Russell (Jim), and brothers, Mike Newton (Tammy) and Larry White (Teri). She also leaves behind her significant other, Randy Ferguson who will keep her in his heart.

Sandy was preceded in death by her mother and father, William “Bill” and Lorena “Peg” White.

Friends and Family are invited to Sandra’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Monday, September 23, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Memorial Service will directly follow at 2:00 pm.
