Steve Wellman – O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Steve Wellman, 61, of Quincy, passed away at 12:20pm Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Born on April 18, 1963, in Quincy to Alfred Charles and Shirley Ann (Beckman) Wellman, Steve was a man whose presence brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Steve’s life was a testament to his dedication and love for his family. He married the love of his life, Theresa “TJ” Wellman, on March 12, 1998, in Las Vegas, NV. Their union was one of mutual respect, deep affection, and unwavering support. TJ survives him, along with their four children, Thomas J. Wellman (Beth), Lucas M. Wellman (Lindsey), Gage T. Wellman (Jamie), and Layla Stevee Wellman, all of Quincy. Steve’s legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Alice Wellman, Cyrus Wellman, Andi Ramsey, Cora Jane Wellman, and Adilyn Wellman, who will miss their grandfather’s warmth and guidance. He is also survived by his devoted mother, Shirley Ann Wellman; his siblings, Kent (Kim), Pamela “Sue” Curtis (Doug), Kevin (Karen), and Sherry Parsons (Ronnie Woodhurst); and many nieces and nephews.

Steve attended Payson Seymour High School and later dedicated 28 years to serving his country in the United States Army. His military career was marked by his ascent to the rank of Master Sergeant, and his work with the Corp of Engineers as a shift head Lock and Dam operator. Steve served as a drill sergeant, training soldiers in Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. McLean, Ft. Lewis, Ft. Bliss, Ft. Jackson, and Ft. Brass. He served as Senior Non Commission Officer that trained soldiers at various military posts on tactical weapons for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. He also trained Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps Personnel as a civilian contractor in preparation for overseas deployment. Steve was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Accommodation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, and the Global War on Terrorism Award. He graduated in 2015 from Vatterott for HVAC.

Steve was a man of many talents and interests. His hands could skillfully craft and build. His passion for motorcycles was unmistakable, taking him on many adventures. His enthusiasm for the New England Patriots was infectious.

Steve Wellman was the epitome of a people person, the life of the party, and a friend to all. His handy and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Friends and Family are invited to Steve’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Andy Caley will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Quincy, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Theresa Wellman for their grandchildren’s education fund.
