Tex L. Gadeke — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Gadake-Tex

Tex L. Gadeke, 92, of Quincy, passed away at 6:27 pm Sunday, April 20, 2025, at his home in Quincy, IL.

Tex was born January 16, 1933, in Fremont, NE to Homer and Susan (Moore) Gadeke.

After graduating from Eustis High School in 1951, he furthered his education at Kearney Teachers College. His sense of duty led him to serve in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956, a period during which he met his beloved wife, Judith A. Kasten, on a memorable Fourth of July in Virginia Beach. The couple wed on December 29, 1956, in Pittsburgh, PA, and shared a loving marriage until Judith’s passing in July 2024.

Tex’s legacy is carried on by his devoted family, including his two children, Kirk Gadeke of Fowler, IL, and Jill Townley (Bruce) of Portland, OR. He was a cherished grandfather to Mitchell W. Gadeke (Morgan) of Quincy, Alexis R. Reese (Kayne) of Spring Lake, NC, and Garrett M. Gadeke of Quincy, and he took joy in his role as a great-grandfather. Tex was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two sisters, Joan Rolland and Suzanne Bartruff.

Throughout his life, Tex was deeply involved in his community and professional associations. He was a respected 3rd Degree Mason in McCook, NE and served as an usher at the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy. Tex worked as a meat salesman at Armour Meat, ConAgra, and Kohl.

Tex’s interests were diverse and passionate. Early in life, he was an avid boater, owning several ski boats and delighting in time spent on the water. Later his name became well-known in the pedal tractor community; what began as a hobby collecting farm toys blossomed into a remarkable talent for restoration. Tex meticulously restored over 250 pedal tractors throughout his lifetime, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship and dedication. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church.

Tex’s story is one of a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Cremation is under the direction of O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home.
