Thomas Eldon Luttrull — Davis Funeral Home

Thomas Eldon Luttrull, 93, of Lewistown, MO, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Velpen, IN, on August 18, 1931, to Pleasant Isaac Luttrull and Opal (Nelson) Luttrull. Thomas is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joyce; his children Jennifer (David) Wright of Emden, MO; Greg Luttrull of Lewistown, MO; Rick (Melissa) Luttrull of Lewistown, MO; and Carol Pflantz of Maywood, MO. He is survived by 9 grandchildren; Matt (Erin) Wright of Emden, MO; Erin (Tim) Vermeer of Silverthorne, CO; Rebecca (Tim) Stroud of Philadelphia, MO; Brent (Katy) Luttrull of Lewistown, MO; Brian (Brianna) Luttrull of Lewistown, MO; Ashton (Trevor) Jaco of Lewistown, MO; Sydney (Brendan) Burckart of Columbia, MO; Luke (Kiersten) Luttrull of Lewistown, MO; and Morgan (Sage) Meleney of Quincy, IL. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Warren, Leslie, Harvey, Joyce, Dorman, Leonard, and Grace; and his daughter-in-law, Jeana Luttrull.

Thomas grew up on several farms as the seventh child of eight siblings. When Thomas was six years old, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an evangelistic meeting led by his uncle. Putting his faith in Jesus Christ was the defining moment of Thomas’ life. He met Joyce Landrey at church when the two were teenagers, and they married on September 1, 1951. Thomas served in the United States Army from 1953-1955, and he was stationed overseas for 16 months. After returning home, Thomas farmed near Daleville, IN and was a faithful member and deacon at Grace Baptist Church in Anderson, IN.

In 1967, Thomas and Joyce and their four young children moved to Missouri to continue farming. Thomas often employed cutting edge farming practices, and he was one of the first farmers in the area to implement no-till farming.

Thomas always had a vision for farming, but he had a greater vision to see people come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Thomas was convinced of the power of the gospel and the joy of heaven to come, and he wanted everyone he knew to be able to go to heaven someday to be with Jesus. One of his greatest joys in life was talking to someone about the Lord and urging him or her to come to Christ. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years both at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Steffenville, MO, and the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO. He was incredibly generous toward ministries and missionaries that preached the gospel. Thomas prayed for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren every day. Near the end of his life, Thomas often meditated on the goodness of God, and looked forward to meeting his Savior face to face.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO with Pastor Nathan Deatrick officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Monticello Cemetery, Monticello, MO. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund of Wayland, MO.
