William “Bill” Watkins, age 80, of Quincy, died on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 6:53 am in Blessing Hospital.

Bill was born on August 12, 1944 the son of D.R. and Myrtle I. Oberdahlhoff Watkins. He married Marcia Voorhis on July 7, 1982 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2024.

After graduating from Quincy High School, Bill served in the United State Army Intelligence Corps from 1962 until 1965. He had a 39 year career at Harris Corporation in Quincy.

Bill was a sportsman who loved the outdoors, spending time fishing and hunting. He was a history buff, and always watched the news and C-SPAN so that he could keep up on politics and world news and event. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and a Dallas Cowboys fan.

A devoted family man, Bill loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He took joy in spending time with and giving candy and gifts to his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by two children, Jason (Emily) Watkins of Quincy, and Janel (fiancé Brandon Miller) Watkins of Quincy; six grandchildren, Austin, Chandler, and Margaret Watkins, Jackson Gibson, and Tyshai and Tyrelle Eickelschulte; a great-granddaughter, Julia; three sisters, Judy (Mike) Veihl, Jill (Phil) Cobb, and Jann (Lee) Harris, all of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Roger (Mary) Voorhis of Quincy; and a sister-in-law, Velma Holm of Seguin, Tx; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Marcia, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy, Stephanie, a step-son, Jeff Eickelschulte, and a brother, Jack Watkins.

Visitation: 9:30 to 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Service: 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Hayden officiating.

Burial: New Providence Cemetery, Ursa, Illinois with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail.
