Baylis man gets 20-year sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, child pornography

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — A Baylis man recently was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Judge J. Frank McCartney sentenced Stephen R. Howard, 41, of Baylis on Aug. 15 following his guilty plea on three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and child pornography.  

An investigation began in March 2021 after a complaint of sexual abuse was made by a victim under the age of 18 years old.  The investigation was conducted by Chief Deputy Zack Orr and Deputy Chastity Anderson of the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.  Pike County Assistant State’s Attorney Leecia Carnes prosecuted the case.
