Dumpster-diving New London man arrested for damaging multiple vehicles at Hannibal movie theater
HANNIBAL, Mo. — A New London man has been charged with nine counts of property damage following a Saturday afternoon incident in downtown Hannibal.
Jaymes D. Gilbert, 23, faces the charges following an action that allegedly occurred on Saturday.
At about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Hannibal Police Department responded to the 100 block of Broadway for numerous reports of property damage. A patron at B&B Cinema exited the business and saw Gilbert allegedly damaging their vehicle.
As the police were being called to the scene, Gilbert jumped into a dumpster. Officers contacted Gilbert, and he exited the dumpster. However, once he was out of the trash, Gilbert attempted to flee.
The HPD officer and an off-duty Missouri State Highway Patrolman subdued Gilbert, who was then transported to the Marion County Jail where he remains on $50,000 cash-only bond.
