Grand jury indicts Quincy man charged with making contact with sheriff’s deputy, hitting babysitter with Jeep

QUINCY — An indictment has been filed against a Quincy man charged with two felonies in connection with a June 11 incident.

Lenard M. Miller, 41, was indicted July 14 by an Adams County grand jury. He appeared with attorney Drew Schnack on Wednesday morning in Adams County Circuit Court and pled not guilty to both counts.

Judge Roger Thomson set Miller’s case for a jury trial on Sept. 12, with a pre-trial hearing set for Sept. 2.

The grand jury determined Miller made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Ian Jones, a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. Miller allegedly pushed Jones to the front doorway of his residence and attempted to close the door on him. The charge of aggravated battery to a peace officer is a Class 2 felony, punishable for between three and seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The grand jury also determined Miller caused bodily harm to Angela Brink by allegedly striking her with a deadly weapon, his 2020 Jeep. Brink was a babysitter for Miller. The charge of aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon is a Class 3 felony, punishable for between two and five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Miller also was charged with a Class A misdemeanor of reckless driving in that he allegedly drove his Jeep at Brink and struck her.
