HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Hannibal man has been charged with first degree arson for his connection with an early Wednesday morning fire at 100 N. 11th, Apartment 309, in the Hannibal Housing Authority’s Laura Hawkins Hall.

The 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued a warrant Wednesday for Kijan B. Watts, 22, of Hannibal. After firefighters with the Hannibal Fire Department made entry into the apartment and extinguished the fire, detectives with the Hannibal Police Department established that Watts was responsible for intentionally setting a fire inside the apartment.

Watts was located at another location Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody without incident. His bond is set at $100,000 cash only. He remains in the Marion County Jail.

The fire displaced several residents of the building, and one was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The Red Cross and State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted.
