Never mind: Investigation of potential violence at Central High School turns out to be in different city

Adams County Sheriff's Department

CAMP POINT, Ill. — A threat of violence that was first believed to be against Central High School in Camp Point turned out to be a mistake.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a call Friday from a concerned citizen who had seen a post on social media indicating a threat of possible violence against students and staff at Central High School.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the threat, and a message was sent to alert staff and parents Saturday night of the information that law enforcement had received.

Investigators determined Sunday that the threat of violence was made initially by a subject in St. Joseph, Mo., who has been taken into custody.  The threat was towards Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo., and not Central High School in Camp Point. The posts initially shared with Adams County law enforcement officials were confirmed to be associated with the St. Joseph, Mo., investigation per their police department.
