Pearl man facing drug, firearm, explosives charges after traffic stop in Pittsfield
PITTSFIELD, Ill. — After a brief chase, a Pearl man was captured and arrested on Sept. 29 and faces several charges.
Deputies with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on silver 2020 Toyota passenger car on Franklin Street in Pittsfield at 11:35 p.m. Sept. 29. The vehicle failed to stop, and a brief pursuit ensued. The vehicle eventually pulled over near Perry Street at Madison Street.
Law enforcement officials performed an investigation and found a firearm, ammunition, and home-made explosive devices. The driver, Tanner S. Reed, 26, of Pearl, was taken into custody and transported to a medical facility.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department followed up with the investigation and conducted a court-authorized search warrant on Sept. 30 at a residence on 212th Avenue in Pearl. A firearm, ammunition, methamphetamine, home-made explosive devices and a computer were seized in the search.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department arrested Reed on Oct. 6 on a no-bond Pike County warrant for the offense of unlawful possession of explosive or incendiary devices.
Reed remains lodged in the Pike County Jail. The incident remains under investigation. Further charges are likely.
The Pittsfield Police Department and Illinois Secretary of State Bomb Squad assisted with the investigation.
