Police, fire investigators identify person found dead in March 29 fire near Fourth and Cherry

QUINCY — A deceased male found by Quincy firefighters during a fire on Quincy’s north side in the early morning hours of March 29 has been identified as Dustin Willis.

Detectives with the Quincy Police Department and investigators with the Quincy Fire Department investigated the cause and origin of the fire at 1021 N. Fourth, as well as the death of Willis. The investigation of the incident concluded Thursday, and the findings of the cause and origin and the death of Willis were determined to be accidental in nature. 

Fire Chief Bernie Vahlkamp said the call came in at 3:47 a.m. on March 29. Crews responded to the fire in the Fourth and Cherry area. Vahlkamp said the building was a two-story machine shed with living quarters on the second floor. Willis’ body was found on the first floor.
