QUINCY – On Wednesday, Quincy Police officers were dispatched to 137 N. 3rd in reference to a burglary in progress.

The building most recently housed Tiramisu restaurant before the Italian eatery moved a block east in April to its new location at 131 N. 4th on Washington Square.

The complainant reported seeing a green Ford F-150 pickup truck parked by the garage door of the building on the north side. The garage door was open and a white male was going in and out of the building. Officers arrived at the building and met with Gary Schmidt at the door to the building.

Officers learned that the items in Schmidt’s truck had been taken from the building. Most of the items appeared to be scrap metal and some power tools. A later search of a residence led to the recovery of more stolen items.

Schmidt was arrested and lodged in the Adams County Jail.
