Two arrested in connection to November burglary on North Bottom Road plead not guilty

QUINCY — Two men arrested in connection to a Nov. 5 burglary along North Bottom Road pled not guilty during their arraignments Tuesday morning.

Jamar R. Washington, 27, and Ashton T. Summers, 19, appeared in Adams County Circuit Court before Judge Tad Brenner. Washington is represented by Betsy Bier, and Summers is represented by Dennis Woodworth.

Washington has been charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, of a residence in the 4300 block of North Bottom Road. If found guilty, he faces a sentencing range of four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Washington would be eligible for 50 percent sentencing under Illinois’ truth in sentencing law.

Summers was charged with residential burglary of the North Bottom Road residence and possession of a stolen firearm, a .38 Special Smith and Wesson revolver. If found guilty, he faces a sentencing range of 4 to 15 years in the Illinois DOC with the Class 1 burglary felony and a between 3 and 7 years for the Class 2 stolen firearm felony. Summers would be eligible for 50 percent sentencing on both charges under Illinois’ truth in sentencing law.

Both men are lodged in the Adams County Jail.

Both men’s cases were placed on the Jan. 2 jury docket. 

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 to the North Bottom Road residence. Multiple suspects were identified after surveillance footage was reviewed.

Deputies later that day conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle associated with the burglary. Tynell R. Washington, 39, of the 600 block of N. Seventh and Summers were taken into custody. Two juvenile passengers were released to the custody of their parents, pending a review of the case by the Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office. A female driver was released without charges.

Shaun D. Johnson, 39, who originally identified himself as Tyree L. Thompson, was apprehended Monday, Nov. 6 at his residence. Two search warrants were executed at 620½ N. Sixth and 606½ N. Seventh. Several stolen items from the burglary were found in both residences during the execution of the search warrants, including six firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition. 

Jamar Washington was arrested and charged on Monday, Nov. 13. 

Tynell Washington, represented by Jesse Gilsdorf, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning. He is charged with:

  • Residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.
  • Unlawful possession of a stolen weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony.
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, a Class 2 felony. 
  • Armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony.

Johnson is charged with:

  • Residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.
  • Unlawful possession of a stolen weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony.
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon or firearm by a felon, a Class 3 felony. 

Johnson, represented by Casey Schnack, was arraigned on Nov. 14 and pled not guilty. His case is scheduled to go to trial Jan. 2.
