Car seat check event set for Saturday morning at Central Fire Station

Child Passenger Safety Week

QUINCY — Every day in Illinois, thousands of parents and caregivers travel with children in their vehicles. While some children are buckled in properly in the correct car seats for their age and size, most are not —∏ if they are buckled up at all.

Adams County and Central Fire Station is participating in Child Passenger Safety Week, a campaign dedicated to helping parents and caregivers make sure their children ride as safely as possible. Safe Kids Child Passenger Safety Week runs through Sept. 24.

The Safe Kids Adams County car seat event will take place from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 24, at Central Fire Station, Ninth and Vermont. Certified technicians will be checking the seats. This event is one of many sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“By attending the Safe Kids Adams County’s car seat event on Saturday, parents can be sure their kids are riding as safely as possible,” Johanna Voss, Safe Kids Adams County Coordinator, said in a press release. “The number one goal is to make sure every child leaves the event safer than they arrived. CPS technicians will check the seat for secure fit, explain the law, look up recalls and more.”

Always remember to register your car seat and booster seat with the car seat manufacturer so you are
notified in the event of a recall. Parents and caregivers can view more information on car seat safety and
locate a certified technician at www.nhtsa.gov/carseat.

Educational materials will be provided to parents and caregivers at the event. To view materials online
