AAUW Quincy branch to celebrate 100 years of supporting women in Quincy at Friday dinner

QUINCY — The AAUW Quincy branch will hold a celebration dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at Tony’s Too Restaurant at the Holiday Inn, 4821 Oak. Quincy Mayor Mike Troup will present a proclamation honoring the group.

One hundred years ago, a group of women in Quincy wanted to do something to promote education and equity for women in the area. Twenty-two charter members founded the American Association of University Women Quincy Branch. The local branch funds scholarships for women who attend John Wood Community College and Quincy University and meets on a regular basis during the academic calendar year.
