Action Brown County recognized for revitalization efforts at Illinois Main Street conference

MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — Action Brown County (ABC) recently received the Lieutenant Governor Award for Economic Vitality for the third consecutive year, recognizing the transformative impact of The Rink @ Uptown Mount Sterling. The planning committee for The Rink @ Uptown Mount Sterling earned the prestigious Volunteer Recognition Award for its dedication to the project.

The Lieutenant Governor Award for Economic Vitality highlights the accomplishments of Illinois Main Street communities in driving economic growth through the principles of The Main Street Approach — Design, Organization, Economic Vitality and Promotion. ABC’s recognition celebrates the success of The Rink @ Uptown Moun t Sterling during its inaugural season.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Volunteer Recognition Award acknowledges the significant contributions of people and groups whose service has enriched their communities.

In a press release, Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton said, “Main streets across Illinois showcase the very best of small businesses and revitalization efforts. I’m so proud of the 2024 award recipients for their hard work and talent to create positive change in our Main Street communities. That positive change will spark economic opportunities and jobs that build purpose and a sense of community throughout Illinois.”

The awards were presented during the Illinois Main Street Conference on Nov. 13. Executive director Alex Geisler and associate director Lauren Hayes accepted the honors on behalf of Action Brown County.

Geisler said, “To be recognized for the third consecutive year with the Lieutenant Governor Award for Economic Vitality is a testament to the incredible dedication of our volunteers, partners and community members. The Rink @ Uptown Mount Sterling is a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together to revitalize and reimagine our community spaces. I’m especially proud of our planning committee, whose hard work and vision have made this initiative a standout success. These awards belong to everyone who has contributed their time, talent and passion to making Mount Sterling a vibrant and thriving place to live, work and play.”

All projects submitted for recognition were completed between 2023 and June 30, 2024.
