Adams County Bicentennial to honor legacy businesses and organizations on Memorial Day

QUINCY — The Adams County Bicentennial Commission will host a special commemoration event on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, to recognize and celebrate legacy businesses and organizations that have served Adams County for 150 years or more.

The ceremony will take place during a brief break in the Quincy Park Band concert at Madison Park, 24th and Maine, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

Representatives from these longstanding organizations and businesses are scheduled to be honored during a formal presentation:

  • Bodley Lodge Masonic Temple
  • Quincy Fire Department
  • Quincy Family YMCA
  • Chaddock
  • Quincy University
  • Quincy Notre Dame
  • Gem City College
  • Blessing Hospital
  • The Herald-Whig
  • Comstock-Castle Stove Company
  • The Knapheide Manufacturing Company
  • Duker & Haugh Funeral Home
  • Freiburg Insurance Agency
  • Gardner-Denver
  • Michelmann Steel Construction Co.
  • The Camp Point Journal
  • Kohl Wholesale
  • Frese Ornamental Nursery, Inc.

Each will receive a certificate of recognition and an official bicentennial commemorative 2-foot by 2-foot sign symbolizing their enduring contributions.

“This event is a meaningful part of our bicentennial celebration,” said Leon Wood, chair of the bicentennial commemorative committee, in a press release. “These organizations have helped shaped Adams County for generations. We are proud to honor their contributions and commitment to our community.”

The public is invited to attend the free concert.
