Camp Point woman charged with domestic battery after allegedly beating man with crutch

CAMP POINT, Ill. — A Camp Point woman is facing domestic battery charges after allegedly beating a man with a crutch early Friday morning.

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department responded to a rural Camp Point address for a report of domestic battery at approximately 1:27 a.m. Friday. An investigation revealed the battery occurred at 210 N. Vermont in Camp Point. 

Deputies responded to the Vermont Street address and arrested Jessica J. John, 43. She has been charged with aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, as well as criminal damage to property and domestic battery, both Class A misdemeanors. John was transported to the Adams County Jail. The victim in the case was driven to Blessing Hospital for treatment of cuts and contusions.

John made her first appearance in Adams County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon. Public Defender Christopher Pratt was assigned to be her counsel. Judge Holly Henze set John’s bond at $2,500, and John was released after paying 10 percent.

A preliminary hearing for John has been set for Sept. 18.
