Historical Society to offer candlelight tours of the Gov. John Wood Mansion in December
QUNCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County is offering Christmas Candlelight Tours of the Gov. John Wood Mansion in December.
People portraying Gov. and Mrs. John Wood will welcome guests to the Greek Revival home of Quincy’s founder.
Tours will be scheduled on Dec. 10, 16, 17, 23 and 26. Tour times are 5 p.m.; 5:20 p.m.; 5:40 p.m.; 6 p.m.; 6:20 p.m.; and 6:40 p.m. Tours will begin in the society’s Visitors Center next to the mansion. Tour guides will be available to take groups to the historic home.
Musical guests will be featured. This year’s performers will be:
- Dec. 10-Javaux Music School Violinists
- Dec. 16-The Eventide Singers
- Dec. 17-Javaux Music School Cellists
- Dec. 23-Logan Kammerer and
- Dec. 26-string duo of John Basinger and Dave Hermann
Javaux Music School offers Suzuki lessons on a variety of instruments. The Eventide Singers are coordinated by Gerry Wagner, and the group includes a number of area vocalists. Kammerer will sing and play guitar on a medley of holiday selections. The string duo of Basinger on the violin and Hermann on the viola, will be accompanied by keyboardist Rhonda Basinger, who will perform on the mansion’s
antique keyboards — the Magnussen organ and melodeon.
Light refreshments will be available.
