Liberty Bank replaces damaged ATM in Camp Point

NEW Camp Point ATM 1

CAMP POINT, Ill. — Liberty Bank has replaced its ATM in Camp Point that was damaged by would-be thieves and vandals last November.

The ATM is located in front of the Express Wash car wash at 408 E. Wood St., Camp Point.

“We did everything we could do to hurry up the process, but with the COVID situation and all of the so-called supply-chain issues, this one took quite a bit longer to ship to us than the original one did” said Mark Field, President & Chairman of the Board at Liberty Bank.  “Our local vendor did all they could, and once the machine came in and we had everything lined up with the SHAZAM network, we all worked through both good and bad weather to get it up and going for our customers this past week.”

In the early-morning hours of Saturday, November 6 of last year, after several attempts to break in to the ATM, thieves rammed a stolen truck into the ATM.  They then took two cans of gas, which were already in their possession, and poured them all over the truck and set it on fire, ruining the ATM and its canopy, in addition to the truck.

“The good news was that every bit of the cash was still secure in the ATM.  The thieves went away empty-handed” added Field.  “I would still pay a handsome reward for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the two persons responsible for that incident.”

The ATM was originally installed in August 2020, after the bank received word that their ATM inside the Casey’s General Store was being replaced by a corporate chain’s machine.  The bank originally had an ATM inside the Korner Kwik Stop for several years until it changed hands about the time that the Casey’s was opened.

“We are glad to be able to take care of our customers in the Northeastern part of Adams County once again,” Field said.

Liberty Bank is a locally-owned and operated community bank with offices in Liberty, Barry, Payson and Quincy.
