QUINCY — Dr. Michelle D. Combs, laboratory manager with Rivercross Diagnostics, recently received a Career Ambassador Award from the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

Career ambassadors help young people understand and appreciate the medical laboratory’s role in patient care and inspire them to pursue a career in the medical laboratory and pathology field through hands-on activities and engaging presentations.

Combs previously was an associate professor of biology at Quincy University, where she helped institute the annual QU Academic Symposium and was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching and Franciscan Service awards.

She enjoys volunteering in the community and is passionate about inspiring youth to pursue careers in the sciences.

In a press release, Combs said, “I have been fortunate to have scientific mentors committed to my development, and strive to pass their wisdom and kindness on to the next generation.”

Combs received her doctorate in molecular and developmental biology from the University of Cincinnati/Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. She also holds certification in molecular biology from the ASCP.

Rivercross Diagnostics is a member of Blessing Health System.
