‘Books and Bags’ cornhole tournament May 28-29 at Port’s Place to raise money for mobile library

QUINCY — Port’s Place, 526 Jersey, will be the site of the inaugural “Books and Bags” outdoor cornhole tournament Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 to benefit the Quincy Public Library. The goal is to raise $5,000 from this event to help with the purchase of a new mobile library.

Saturday’s tournament will be a four-game round robin event. Upon completion of the round robin portion of the tournament, teams will be divided into either the A division or the B division. Teams will sign up from noon-1 p.m. with bags starting to fly at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $50 per team, and teams are guaranteed six games. Payout, based on a minimum of 40 teams and a $600 donation from sponsors, will be:

A Division

  • 1st place-$1,100
  • 2nd place-$650
  • 3rd place-$350
  • 4th place -$200

B Division

  • 1st place-$150
  • 2nd place-$100
  • 3rd place-$50

All profits from the entry fees, after payout to the winning teams, will be donated to the library.

The library will have a booth set up on site to talk with individuals about mobile library plans. Interested parties also may sign up for a library card during the event. A raffle also will be held, with all of the money raised donated to the library.

Vendors in attendance will be Sweet P Petals, Love and Lou, the Children’s Museum, Trudy’s Trendy Boutique, Logey and Lenny Children’s Boutique, Quincy Axe Company and Pepsi. Quincy Axe Company will donate all profits to the library, and Pepsi will provide a kids’ bag toss game.

Businesses offering various treats at the tournament will be Little Intricate Treats, Chaotic Sugar and Tri-State Snow Biz. Chaotic Sugar and Tri-State Snow Biz will donate 10 percent of their profits to the library.

Saturday’s event will end with a performance by the Silver Bullets from 7-10 p.m.

Sunday’s event will be a long-toss competition beginning at 2 p.m. Signup starts at 1 p.m. Cost is $20 per person with a 50/50 payout. This will be a blind draw with incentives and a card draw for partners.
