Chaddock to hold ‘Community Conversation about Kids and Trauma’ on June 13
QUINCY — Mass shootings, violence, COVID, divisiveness, war.
Young people today are exposed, directly or indirectly, to an increasing number of traumatic experiences. Parents often don’t know how best to address the impact such events may have on their children. Chaddock, an internationally recognized expert on the impact of attachment and trauma, invites area residents to attend a Community Conversation About Kids and Trauma from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, at The Knowledge Center at Chaddock, 205 S. 24th.
A panel of Chaddock experts will share insight into how traumatic experiences can impact young people, and offer suggestions for how parents can support their children who may be struggling. In addition, those in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions of the Chaddock team. As a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, Chaddock also will have available resources from this network which lead the way in research on effective strategies to support those struggling with traumatic stress.
In a press release, Debbie Reed, president/CEO of Chaddock, said, “Young people often express their fears and stresses through behaviors, rather than with words. Yes, it is important to address behaviors. It is equally important, however, to address what is going on underneath the behaviors — the emotions that are driving them. That is how you get lasting behavior change.”
Professionals from more than 100 countries have accessed the attachment and trauma resources provided by Chaddock. The organization has provided direct treatment services to children and their families from 38 states throughout the United States.
