Friends of the Log Cabin to hold cleanup day Saturday in Log Cabin Village
QUINCY — Friends of the Log Cabin will hold a cleanup day from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Lincoln-era Log Cabin Village.
The historic log cabin village is on Quinsippi Island Park, accessed via All-America Park. Because of bridge construction over the Mississippi River, participants should come down Cedar Street and then take a right on Bonansinga Drive to All America Park. Plans call for cleaning the structures and grounds to prepare the village for school tours and for an open house scheduled from 1-4 p.m. May 8.
The group hopes to:
- Move construction items from the recently restored/re-built 1828 Fraser log cabin to storage;
- Sweep and clean the 1838 Hull log cabin, the 1850 Clat Adams cabin and the 1850 Herleman Cabin;
- Remove windows, sweep and clean the 1800’s-era log church;
- Uncover wood piles and re-stack wood;
- Locate and fill holes; and
- Re-set the 1800s era rail fence.
Anyone interested in helping should wear old clothes and bring gloves. Gloves and tools will be provided. For questions or to volunteer, email logcabinvillagequincyil@gmail.com.
