QUINCY — The Friends of the Lorenzo Bull House, 1550 Maine, have several springtime events planned.

The restored Spring Nymph fountain will be dedicated to the late Irene Huff, founding president of Friends of the Lorenzo Bull House, at 1 p.m. April 18.

The annual fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the Women’s City Club at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the Quincy Country Club. This year’s theme is “Dinner with the Bulls — Meet the Parkers.” Tickets are $75 per person. Reservations are required. Register online at or send a check to FLBH Dinner, 1550 Maine, Quincy, Ill., 62301.

In a press release, president Dick Wellman stated, “This year will be quite exciting because we’re enhancing the auctions. There will be a live auction of priceless items, as well as a silent auction of local art. The presentation will be about the Parker family, the second generation of Bulls to live in the house.”

The organization will co-host its first Dogwood Parade party and festival with the Quincy Park District from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on May 6.

“A parade party is exactly what it sounds like — a party to watch a parade,” Wellman said. “It’s when a community comes together as one to celebrate with friends and neighbors, while enjoying the beautiful historic architecture at Lorenzo Bull Park.”

“This is the first time anything like this has been tried for the Dogwood Parade,” said Barb Holthaus, vice president of the Quincy Park Board and board member of the Friends of the Lorenzo Bull House. “The Lorenzo Bull Park is uniquely situated on the Maine Street parade route. It’s a natural fit to be the host of a parade party and all-day festival. We’re hoping Quincy will get behind this new event.”

Friends of the Lorenzo Bull House is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded to protect, preserve, promote and restore the Lorenzo Bull House and grounds. The house is available to rent for a party or corporate event.
