QUINCY — Gem City Real Estate Group is taking a new approach to the traditional back-to-school supply drives typically held this time of the year.

In many classrooms when kids run out of school supplies throughout the year, it is often the teachers who step in and fill the gaps out of their own pockets. These educators often go above and beyond their teaching responsibilities to ensure that every child has the tools they need to succeed. This initiative will hopefully alleviate some of the financial burdens they often face throughout the school year.

Chris Moore, Gem City Real Estate agent and a previous educator, came up with the idea. In a press release, Moore said, “Our teachers work so hard and should not have to pay out of pocket for kids supplies when they run out. Even something as simple as a box of pre-sharpened pencils or some dry erase markers would be a big help to them.”

Both monetary and supply donations will be accepted at the Gem City Real Estate office, 535 Maine, Suite 4B, in Quincy. Other drop-off locations are Teachers Federation, Calftown Coffee House, the ACA Business Club and Maurices. Donations will be accepted from July 15 through Aug. 1.

If your business or organization is interested in serving as a drop-off location for supplies, call 651-359-0325. Personal pickup arrangements can be made for larger donations.

Suggested items for donation are:

  • Pre-sharpened pencils are the No. 1 priority
  • boxes of red pens
  • Expo Dry erase markers – black, blue, red, green
  • Hygiene products (deodorant, feminine products, etc.)
  • Post-it notes
  • Scissors
  • Glue

“This is just one small way for us to not only show our appreciation to local educators but help them offset expenses as well,” said Misty Dowling, designated managing broker for Gem City Real Estate LLC. “We want to put a smile on their faces as they, too, prepare to go back to school this fall.”
