QUINCY — Volunteers and members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers from District 9, Automotive Lodge 77, based in Bridgeton, Mo., recently visited Quincy to assist a local family with the construction of two wheelchair ramps.

This donation was the result of IAM’s HELPS (Honoring-Engaging-Lifting-Providing Service) initiative.

Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Altgilbers, familiar with local Lodge 822 of IAM, contacted IAM business representative Jennifer Kahl to see if the District 9 community service committee would provide assistance with a project. On Sunday, June 13, 13 volunteers and members from six lodges in the IAM District 9 community service committee arrived in Quincy to provide the materials and labor needed to construct two wheelchair ramps for the Altgilbers family at 1108 S. 23rd.

In a press release, community service chairman Scott Hargis said, “We had an unbelievable group of brothers and sisters who participated in this event. When this family reached out to us, the committee did not hesitate to assist. I am very proud of everyone who made this possible.”
