JWCC providing free GED prep classes in Quincy, Camp Point, Mount Sterling and Pittsfield

QUINCY — John Wood Community College will offer free General Education Development preparation classes in Quincy, Camp Point, Mount Sterling and Pittsfield through the JWCC Adult Education program, which helps students prepare for the high school equivalency GED test and improve basic reading and math skills.

The program assists with career planning, job skills and transitioning to college. Test takers passing the GED test receive an Illinois high school diploma.

GED classes are free and offered in-person or online. In-person classes are held:

  • Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m.-noon at the Quincy campus, 1301 S. 48th.
  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m. at the Quincy campus.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-noon at Bella Ease, 707 Broadway.
  • Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. at the Quincy Public Library, 526 Jersey.
  • Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-noon at the First Christian Church in Camp Point, 210 S. Ohio.
  • Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-noon at the Southeast Education Center in Pittsfield, 39637 260th Street.
  • Tuesdays from 5-8 p.m. at the Mount Sterling Education Center in Mount Sterling, 108 N. Capitol.

English as a Second Language classes meet in-person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. at the Quincy campus, 1301 S. 48th, and Mondays from 5-8 p.m. at the Southeast Education Center in Pittsfield. 

Classes are free, but interested students are required to attend an orientation session before starting class. Orientation sessions are held weekly. To register, contact Lisbeth Lefler, Adult Education Transition Coordinator, at 217-641-4951. More information is available at //www.jwcc.edu/ged.
