QUINCY — The John Wood Community College Workforce Development Center will offer specialized electrical troubleshooting and safety courses at JWCC’s Workforce Development Center, 2710 N. 42nd.

Electrical Troubleshooting and Maintenance will be held on April 21 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Working with real-world components, students in the two-day course will learn how to fix electrical problems quickly and safely. This course was created to bring students up to speed in their electrical troubleshooting skills. It was designed to cover the most commonly performed electrical troubleshooting tasks a maintenance technician faces daily. For the novice or experienced electrician, this training course provides a no-nonsense, practical and real-world systematic approach to electrical troubleshooting. This course can be adopted as part of a company’s regular Qualified Electrical Worker program. The cost is $1,095 per person, including course materials and lunch daily.

NFPA 70E (National Fire Protection Association) class will be offered May 5 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The eight-hour instructor-led NFPA 70E course provides the participant with an understanding of the new safety standards for electrical safety in the workplace. This course reviews the mandatory safety requirements of NFPA 70E, 2021 Edition. This course is geared to the hands-on person or a manager in charge of electrical safety in general. Topics include a hierarchy of electrical safety, lockout/tagout requirements, proper use of PPE, OSHA and NFPA safe work practice requirements. The cost is $195 per person, plus a $90 book fee. Course materials and lunch are included.

The classes are open to the public. No application is necessary; but individuals are required to make a reservation to attend. The instructor for both courses is Rick Gertz.
