Paintings by Quincy Artists Guild members to be on display at Cheryl Loatsch Studio

Quincy Artists Guild

QUINCY — The Quincy Artists Guild will display paintings by its members from Aug. 13-26 at the Cheryl Loatsch Studio, 334 S. 48th.

An opening reception is scheduled for 5-7:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Regular viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Small groups are welcome to tour.

The artists have produced different media such as oil, watercolor and pastels. The group offers plein-air paintings that took place at the riverfront in Canton, Mo., and at other sites in Quincy.

Monthly demonstrations like mini-workshops are shared by the membership. The group had a watercolor workshop in mid-March taught by John Preston from Iowa, and the same artist will be having a pastel workshop on Aug. 27-28 at the Quincy Country Club. The cost of the workshop is $130 for members and $150 for non-members.

If you are an artist or want to be one, the Quincy Artists Guild welcomes you to become a member and share the love of painting, sketching, print making, ceramics, jewelry and more. The guild meets at 9 a.m. Monday in the Cheryl Loatsch Studio to create artwork and share and learn new techniques. Membership is $20 annually. The group hosts one or two demonstrations a month (by members and occasionally by an art professional) and takes a yearly trip by Amtrak to the Art Institute in Chicago.

The group also visits museums and galleries. Members have exhibited their artwork in the Art Center’s annual members’ exhibit and Mary S. Oakley-Lee Lindsay Artist Showcase. To learn more about the guild or be part of a workshop, call Dr. Zakiah Ali at 217-440-3331.
