QUINCY — The Quincy Astronomy Club is presenting a live video talk at 7 p.m. Thursday July 27, in room D022/023 at John Wood Community College.

Learn how Quincy native Beth Buck worked to expand our understanding of the universe. She will focus on space exploration using satellites and robotic spacecraft. Her talk will include OSIRIS-REx mission, the InSight and Juno missions. These are missions/spacecraft that Lockheed Martin built and operate for NASA.

Buck is graduate of Quincy High School and has a degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois. She worked for Lockheed Martin for 33 years in the aerospace division (rockets, satellites and spacecraft) in Colorado.

The Astronomy Club was formed by local amateur astronomers and seeks to teach, explore and expand minds about space and our universe. Lectures are held monthly, usually on the last Thursday of the month. The club also holds monthly evening observing sessions. These are scheduled as weather and observing conditions permit. Local amateurs with their telescopes guide the observing sessions.
