Quincy Police Department seeking applicants for position of police officer

QUINCY — The City of Quincy’s seeking applicants for the position of police officer with the Quincy Police Department.

Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. The Quincy Police Department has lateral entry for active full-time law enforcement officers. Starting salary for lateral entry officers will be based on the officer’s level of experience up to five years. The qualifications that must be met and additional information about the position are described below.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

1. CITIZENSHIP: Must be a United States Citizen. If not of resident of Adams County, applicant must agree to move to and live within the boundaries of Adams County within 6 months after appointment.

2. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associates degree is preferred.

3. AGE: Must be at least 20 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of written exam but must be at least 21 years of age and under 36 years of age at time of appointment. No upper age restrictions for lateral entry applicants. Military veterans shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years.

4. TESTING: Step 1: All non-lateral entry applicants must pass the written examination with a score of 70% or higher and complete a physical agility demonstration. Step 2: All lateral entry applicants, as well as those applicants successfully completing Step 1, must pass an interview and a background investigation. Step 3: Prior to being hired, all applicants must successfully complete the following tests: psychological, polygraph, medical examination, drug screening.

LATERAL ENTRY: Lateral entry applicants are those individuals that are currently employed as a full-time law enforcement officer with another law enforcement agency and:

• Have a minimum of two years’ experience in law enforcement.
• Have successfully completed a probationary period with their current agency.
• Prior to being hired, all applicants must successfully complete the following tests: psychological, polygraph, medical examination, drug screening.

The starting salary is between $53,967.96 and $55,856.83 with educational incentives or between $60,551.94 and $69,496.79 for lateral entry applicants. (A labor agreement is being negotiated; salary will be adjusted with approval of new contract plus subsequent increases and benefits.)

Testing for non-lateral entry applicants will be on Saturday, Aug. 19. The physical agility demonstration will begin at 9 a.m. Applicants should report to Flinn Memorial Stadium, 4400 Maine. The written test will be held at 1 p.m. at the Quincy Regional Training Facility, 1900 Seminary Road. Parking is available on the east and west side of the building.
