Quincy Public and Parochial Schools dismissing early again Friday due to heat

Quincy Public and Parochial Schools will be dismissing early due to extreme heat indexes.

While school buildings are air conditioned, the majority of the main route buses are not. Lunch will be served. Outdoor activities will be canceled or moved indoors. “I do not take these decisions lightly but must ensure that all our students and staff are safe,” said QPS Superintendent Todd Pettit. “I appreciate your understanding as we navigate the extreme temperatures with the goal of keeping everyone safe.

Pettit said he will continue to monitor the weather and provide information for the remainder of the week through the school’s notification system.

  • Quincy Notre Dame-11:05
  • Quincy’s four K-8 Catholic Schools-11:30
  • The Academy-11 a.m.
  • QHS-11:25 a.m.
  • QJHS-11:45 a.m.
  • Elementary Schools-12:15
  • QAVTC-No evening classes
  • ECFC-No afternoon head start or pre-k

Cooling Stations that are available

  • The Kroc Center, 405 Vermont St., Quincy. From 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to
    7 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday
  • The Family Store of Quincy- 425 Broadway, Quincy. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Quincy YMCA- 3101 Maine St. Tuesday through Sunday.
  • Family Services/Emergency Shelter of Quincy, 501 Broadway. Always open. Food, snacks, and water
    will be provided.
  • Quincy Senior & Family Resource Center, 639 York St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
