Tabletop gaming convention QuinCon 36 starts Friday at Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center
QUINCY — QuinCon 36, a tabletop gaming convention, is coming to the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, 639 York, on July 14-16. Hours for the gaming convention are 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, July 16.
Categories of competition will include:
- role-playing games — 60 sessions that include D and D, Pathfinder, Starfinder, Old School Essentials, Basic Role Playing, Basic Fantasy RPG, Savage Worlds, Iron Falcon, Toon and Call of Cthulhu.
- miniature games —Quantum Leap Demo – Gladiatorial Combat, Invasion of Sicily, Company Aytch, the second annual memorial “Tell that to a Carthaginian” Battle and a Warhammer 40K tournament.
- board games — 20 sessions of board games including Temple of the Beastmen, Chicago Express, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Return to Dark Tower, Mosaic, New York Zoo, Dodos Riding Dinos, Sagrada, Terraforming Mars, Avatar: Fire Nation Rising, Endless Winter, Cthulhu Wars and Talisman.
- card games — Unstable Unicorns, Super Hero Debate, Cards Against Humanity, a Magic the Gathering Commander tournament and a Yu-Gi-Oh! OTS tournament.
Steve Guziec, owner and head coach of Gem City Life Coaching, will offer a seminar Friday evening on “Using Gaming to Help Process Life Trauma and Reduce Anxiety.” Various gaming-related vendors will be in attendance to offer new games, accessories, cards, dice, books and more. The QuinCon auction will see donated games and adjacent items sold to generate funds for the children’s department of the Quincy Pubic Library.

The Great River Gaming Guild, the host of the event, meets from 6-10 p.m. on Sundays in the basement of Tangerine Bowl to play tabletop games.
