Adams County puts burn ban in place

QUINCY— Effective Wednesday March 12, open burning is prohibited in Adams County.

Upon recommendation of rural fire chiefs, Adams County Board Chairman Bret Austin issued the ban. Conditions across the county have become increasingly dry with windy conditions expected throughout the week.

This ban will be in effect until Adams County receives rainfall, which is predicted for Friday.

“Adams County Rural Fire Departments have responded to 13 grass, field, or brush fires over the past week,” Adams County Emergency Management Agency Director John Simon said. “Conditions right now are favorable for what is a well-intended spring burn to get out of control rapidly.”

Open burning is prohibited; however, small recreational fires contained within a ring are permitted. If burning in a fire ring, it should never be left unattended, and water should be on hand to extinguish the fire.

The public is asked to use good judgment and be mindful of increasingly dry conditions when having recreational fires or using an open flame that could spread.

The public is asked to call 9-1-1 to report any un-attended or un-controlled fires.
