American legion Riders

QUINCY — American Legion Riders Post 37 will hold its first Gold Star Family scholarship ride on Saturday, June 22, beginning at Smith Brothers Power Sports, 5101 Oak.

All vehicles are welcome, not just motorcycles. The goal is to raise $6,000 to establish a local scholarship fund for Gold Star Families with these scholarships available to families. Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon with the ride concluding anytime between 4 and 8 p.m. at The Dock.

Riders will have the option of two routes, each having four stops. Riders taking route one will have stops at Harrison Pub, Twisted Spirits, Just One More, Instant Replay and Uncle Bob’s. Route two will take riders to Outskirts in Loraine, South Side in Mendon, Down on the Corner in Marcelline, The Office is Basco and Red Dog Saloon in Meyer.

Upon conclusion, the band Bootcut will be performing at The Dock. Food will be available along with cash prizes and a silent auction.

A Gold Star family is one that has experienced the loss of a loved one — an immediate family member — who died as the result of active-duty military service.

American Legion Riders chapters are well known for their charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children’s hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded service members and scholarships.

More than 110,000 American Legion Riders meet in more than 2,000 chapters in every domestic department and in at least three foreign countries.
