Applications open for JWCC Presidential Scholarship; deadline to apply is Jan. 31

QUINCY — John Wood Community College (JWCC) is accepting applications for its competitive Presidential Scholarship program, with a deadline of Friday, Jan. 31.

This scholarship, funded by the JWCC Foundation, provides full in-district tuition for up to two years to three deserving high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to community service.

Eligible students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA (unweighted on a 4.0 scale) and will participate in a competitive selection process involving an application, essay submission and in-person interview. The application is available online at //www.jwcc.edu/presidential.

The Scholarship process:

• Apply online – Visit //jwcc.edu/presidential to submit your application. Requirements include: Most recent high school transcript; Resume detailing community service and leadership experience; Essay: “How have you been a Trail Blazer and contributed to improving your school, community, or family?”
• Complete JWCC admission application – Apply for admission at //www.jwcc.edu/apply.
• Interview – Top candidates will be invited to an in-person interview before Feb. 20.

Selection criteria for candidates uses a 100-point system consisting of:

• GPA – 20 points
• Resume – 10 points
• Essay – 20 points
• Interview – 50 points

The scholarship also includes serving as presidential ambassadors at JWCC who participate in alumni relations and community outreach programs through the JWCC Foundation.
