QUINCY — Carolyn Bailey, director of risk management for Blessing Health System, was one of a few volunteer faculty members chosen to represent the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management recently and teach Enterprise Risk Management in Doha, Qatar, for the Hamad Medical Corporation of Qatar.

The corporation is made up of several hospitals and other services. Bailey also attended the fifth Qatar Summit for Healthcare Risk Management conference.

Qatar is a Middle Eastern nation that is 7,319 miles from Quincy. It is on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, sharing its sole land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf.

In a press release, Bailey said, “It was a unique experience to see this part of the world and to collaborate with other healthcare leaders, risk management and patient safety champions. I also gained first-hand appreciation for how innovative and beautiful Doha, Qatar, is.”

She also had the opportunity to ride a camel while in Qatar.

At Blessing Health System since 2008, Bailey is responsible for leading the risk management department and related activities across the health system, focusing on patient and employee safety, corporate insurance, enterprise risk management, claims, complaints and grievances and business continuity among other areas.

Bailey serves on the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management advisory board and is a member of its Enterprise Risk Management taskforce and faculty on a volunteer basis. She is the president of the Illinois Society of Healthcare Risk Management, a member of the Chicagoland Healthcare Risk Management Society, Risk and Insurance Management Society and the Quincy Safety Council.

Bailey is also a certified professional healthcare risk manager and certified healthcare safety professional.
