Celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, Villa Kathrine returns to warm weather schedule

QUINCY — Friends of the Castle recently moved the Villa Kathrine hours to its “warm weather schedule.” The villa now is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
This year is the 125th anniversary of the construction in 1900 of the Mediterranean style Villa Kathrine on the Mississippi River bluff at 532 Gardner Expressway. It also is celebrating 38 years serving, since 1987, as Quincy’s tourist information center and Great River Road Interpretive Center, staffed by volunteers. The villa has had visitors from all 50 states and 102 countries. It is available every day for individual and group educational tours.
It is the home of the Quincy Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Friends of the Castle was established 47 years ago, in 1978, as a not-for-profit organization with the specific mission of saving the Villa Kathrine from demolition, restoring it to its original beauty and preserving, maintaining and operating it as a community asset.
