QUINCY — John Bordewick joins the Alzheimer’s Association as this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s event chair in Quincy.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. The Quincy Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Illinois Veterans Home.

In a press release, Bordewick said, “As a leader at Dot Foods, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact of Alzheimer’s on my colleagues and their families. I’m eager to step up and play a more proactive role in the planning and execution of this event, ensuring its success and meaningful impact on our community.”

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their connection to the disease.

“John’s leadership will be critical as we move our walk to the Veterans Home for the first time. We have volunteer leadership and an amazing location,” said Todd Lamison, walk manager with the Alzheimer’s Association.

More than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Illinois alone, more than 230,000 people are living with the disease along with 312,000 caregivers.
