Experience Adams County’s educational heritage with historic school house tours

ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. — As part of the Adams County Bicentennial celebrations, residents and visitors are invited to participate in historic schoolhouse tours across the county, offering a rare glimpse into the one-room schoolhouses that once were the cornerstone of education in the region.
Each tour is free to attend, for ages 14 and older. Reservations are required to receive instructions and informational material. Transportation will be conducted via school bus, providing an authentic experience of the past.
Tour dates and locations are:
- Payson Unit 1: Saturday, July 12, 1 to 5 p.m.
- Mendon Unit 4: Saturday, July 19, 1 to 5 p.m.
- Quincy Parochial Schools: Saturday, Aug. 16, 1 to 5 p.m.
- Liberty Unit 2: Saturday, Aug. 30, 1:0 to 5 p.m.
- Camp Point Unit 3: Saturday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to noon
- Quincy Public Schools: Saturday, Sept. 27, 1 to 5 p.m.
