Filming of Death of a Brewer to begin Monday, Aug. 25-extras needed

QUINCY — The production team for Death of a Brewer, a new feature film inspired by real events surrounding the Midwest’s tangled ties leading up to Prohibition, announced an updated start date for filming in Quincy. Originally scheduled to begin Monday, July 28, production will officially begin Monday, Aug. 25.
This timeline shift allows for improved alignment with key cast availability and final logistical coordination across multiple locations. The production remains deeply committed to filming in Quincy, Galena and Iowa City — with particular excitement around historic locations like the Dick Brothers Brewery Complex and its iconic tunnels, the Illinois Veterans Home and historic log cabins.
“We’re building something truly special, and this slight adjustment ensures we have all the right pieces — and people — in place,” said director Mokotsi Rukundo in a press release. “We’re so grateful for the community’s support and look forward to rolling cameras soon.”
Set in the late 19th century, Death of a Brewer is based on a true story and explores the complexities of the brewing industry in the lead up to prohibition. The production blends historic fact with fictional storytelling and features a diverse creative team rooted in Midwest filmmaking.
