Former Quincy mayor to speak at Hancock County Historical Society meeting Saturday

CARTHAGE, Ill. — The next quarterly meeting of the Hancock County Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Carthage Community Center, 301 Main. It is open to the public.

The topic for the meeting, presented by former Quincy mayor Charles Scholz and practicing attorney with Scholz and Scholz, LLP, will be “John Hay’s Life from Warsaw to Springfield to the White House – The Greatest Diplomat in American History.”

Scholz will discuss Hay’s relationship with Lincoln, an author and diplomat of American history under President Abraham Lincoln.

Scholz has served as an Illinois Assistant Attorney General directing the Western Illinois Regional Office and was the downstate political director for U.S. Senator Paul Simon. Scholz was a member of the advisory committee of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and also chaired the Quincy Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
