Ghost tours of Woodland Cemetery to be offered in October by Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County

QUINCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County’s annual Woodland Cemetery ghost tours will be held beginning Saturday, Oct. 7 and continue every Saturday in October. The tour also will be offered on Halloween night. Daily tour times available are 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The walking event at Woodland Cemetery, 1020 S. Fifth, will take you back into Quincy’s historic past. The tours will feature experienced guides who will lead you on several separate paths through the cemetery, where you will see and hear fascinating figures from long-ago Quincy. Experienced actors in period attire will be stationed at the graves offering entertaining, amusing and poignant stories.

The themes for tours are:

  • Oct. 7 and Oct. 21 is The Bloody Conflict: 1861-1865;
  • Oct. 14 and Oct. 28 is Pandemics and Pestilence
  • Oct. 31 is Voices from the Vault (in the Woodland Mausoleum)

Cost for the tour is $15 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the HSQAC office at 217-222-1835. Proceeds from this event support the preservation of the Gov. John Wood Mansion and the History Museum on the Square.
