Good Samaritan Home of Quincy honors nine centenarians in Century Club event

QUINCY — Good Samaritan Home of Quincy celebrated its resident centenarians at its annual “Century Club” event on May 15 and gave them a chance to share some words of wisdom and advice on living a long and happy life.
Those recognized were:
- Hilda West, 108
- Ruth Disselhorst, 107
- Betty Klingele, 105
- Annabelle Rhoads, 104
- Sylvia Holzgrafe, 102
- Barbara Byars, 101
- Hearld Ambler, 101
- Bob Bizer, 101
- Carolyn Altenhein, 100
Some of the highlights of wisdom shared in a press release were:
- “Smiling gets you through life. Who wants to look at someone pouting?” – Annabelle Rhoads
- “Sometimes we are as crabby as can be and sometimes not, but God gets us through.” – Annabelle Rhoads
- “I don’t know when someone is grown up.” – Ruth Disselhorst, when asked to share her best memories growing up
- “Live in the country.” – Ruth Disselhorst, sharing her advice on having a good life
- “Thank God every day. That’s a good way to start.” – Ruth Disselhorst, sharing advice for living a good life
- “Age is a matter of the mind. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” – Betty Klingele
- “If anyone hurts your feelings, shut up. If you don’t have anything nice to say … then shut up.” – Betty Klingele, sharing life advice
- “I married the most wonderful man, and that’s all that’s necessary.” – Barbara Byars, when asked about her life.
