Wooldridge

Quincy native and 1983 graduate of Quincy High School Tim Scherrer will launch his new book “Half the Town Burned: The Great Wooldridge Fire of 2022” in Wooldridge, Mo., at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, the one-year anniversary date and hour of the wildfire that wiped half a Missouri village off the map.

The book includes 46 interviews from most of the residents of the village, key first responders and state officials and is a 360-degree assessment of a disaster from start to nine months afterward. Included is the transcription of the 911 calls and firefighter communications for the first 20 minutes of the disaster.

The fire was the largest fire mutual aid response in state history involving 161 firefighters from 63 departments from all over the state.

The book was published by Lulu Publishing.
